The Elephant in the Room

Challenge: Create a visual identity that communicates an aspect of privacy.

Solution: I created a board game for children and parents to engage with each other on digital privacy and how they can protect themselves from being on the World Wide Web. From research, I found out that parents have difficulty talking to their children about their online usage. Moreover, children from a very young age go online without knowing the possible dangers. This board game makes them learn about online privacy that is fun for the child. It also contains questions that spark up an open dialogue between them.

All three categories create an educational and fun game. This board game initiates a safe environment where the parent and child discuss their online usage. I found that children are not comfortable opening up about their digital use because it is sensitive. Making children and parents aware of online privacy is the best step for a child to be safe. The game is for children that are 3-8 years old.

How does the game work?

The parent and the child choose their gaming piece, and the oldest start first with rolling the dice. The goal is to hit the finish line first. The person picks up the category depending on what color they land on. There is category yellow, green and blue. The person reads the question or statement out loud. Some of these cards also will tell them to take a step back or forward. When the oldest answered the question or read aloud the statement, it is the youngest turn to roll the dice and pick a category based on what color they landed on. The game continues until one of them hits the finish line.
